Silver jewelries are lustrous when they are new and they really go well with any outfit, not to mention that they can bring luster to the wearers your personality too. However, like any other jewelry, their shine can fade from dirt and everyday wear and tear. Silver jewelries get tarnished in the long run especially if they are constantly exposed to oxygen and sulfur in the air. When this happens, your precious silvers will look dull and lifeless. So, to restore their natural shine and bring back the life they used to possess, its time to clean them.

Cleaning silver jewelries is easy. First off, you need to find a good silver cleaning product. It is not enough to just settle with products that they say are good for cleaning silvers. It is important to choose the right cleaning products and tools that are specially designed for your precious silvers. Never use harsh cleaning products that contain bleach, ammonia, or alcohol as these can deteriorate the quality of the jewelries or worse, they can ruin the jewelry. Start by finding mild silver cleaners. You can find one at your nearest local hardware store. But if the tarnish is not that heavy, you can use baking soda diluted in water or few drops of liquid detergent mixed in water. This will work and will restore the silvers shine.

When cleaning silver, always use a polishing cloth or a jewelry cloth. This is usually made up of two sheets of cloth the outer layer is cotton and the inner layer contains special chemicals that will whiten the silver and make it look brand new. By using a jewelry cloth, any abrasion to the jewelry is prevented. This cloth usually lasts a dozen of uses so it is worth your money. When polishing silver jewelries, hand polishing is highly recommended to keep them shiny and to avoid damaging the jewelry surface.

Some say that toothpaste is good for cleaning silver jewelry. However, this can be abrasive and may affect the quality of the silver. In heavily tarnished cases, you will want to acquire commercial silver paste cleaner. This can bring back the luster of your silver pieces. Just apply this paste to your jewelry, leave it for a few minutes then wipe using a jewelry cloth. Dont apply the paste to the gemstones or glass stones as this can damage them. Once you are done cleaning, your silver jewelries are good as new without any evidence of tarnish.

Another secret for cleaning jewelry is using Windex. Yes, you heard it right! If your jewelries dont have stones, cubic zirconia and other precious gems, this proves to be an effective cleaner. While it does not provide the same cleaning quality that jewelry cleaning cloth provides but it is very handy if a cleaning cloth is not available.

Cleaning silver jewelries is not a tough job. You just have to know the best products to use and know how to use them. But the best way to take care of your precious silvers and prevent them from tarnishing is to keep them in a sealed bag. Dont expose them anywhere. When placing them in a sealed bag, make sure that they are dry because moisture can tarnish them as well.

A man suspected of being involved in a bombing targeting Iraqi ministries stole a gun from an officer, wounded a officer and mortally wounded a senior investigator, reported Iraqi officials Sunday.

After being wounded, investigator Arkan Hachim returned fire at the suspect and fatally wounded him, according to the Ministry of the Interior.

Officials declared the incident “a dereliction”, and said they would investigate further into the shooting. The Ministry has not yet identified the suspect, and did not give any information concerning evidence of the man’s involvement nor the time of the shooting.

The bombs targeted the Justice Ministry and the Baghdad Provincial Council buildings, killing close to 160 people and injuring hundreds.

The handgun was taken while a guard escorted the suspect to get a drink of water, and wounded the guard after taking the gun.

Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki believes that Sunni insurgents are the cause of the bombings, and has asked the UN to investigate.

An avalanche on U.S. Route 40, which was 100 feet wide and 15 feet deep, has buried many cars, caused other cars to be pushed over the edge of an expressway, and injured eight people, just outside of Denver, Colorado. The avalanche started at 10:30 AM, starting about 12 miles off Interstate 70, and taking three different paths down the mountain before coming to a stop.

“Our crews said it was the largest they have ever seen. It took three paths,” said a spokeswoman for the Colorado Department of Transportation, Stacey Stegman.

All eight (7 adults, 1 minor) have been taken to the St. Anthony Central Hospital in Denver. According to a hospital spokeswoman, all of the victims suffered minor injuries. Seven patients were released on Saturday. There were no casualties.

U.S. route 40 is currently closed to traffic. According to Winter Park spokesman Matt Sugar, there are no plans to close the ski hills. “We’ve gotten calls from all over the country asking if the resort is closed,” he said, “and the answer is no.”

This is the third snow storm to hit the Denver area in three weeks.

Two men have been fined for their failure to prevent the 2006 Lathen maglev train accident in Germany, which caused 23 deaths and 11 injuries on September 22, 2006.

The maglev train involved slammed into a maintenance vehicle at high speed on a test track after what was described as a “chain of human error” Maglevs float above the rails, kept up and propelled by magnetism. This particular Transrapid sat 1 cm above the rails and featured a rail-hugging design that reduced the risk of derailments.

The state court in Osnabrück fined then track manager Guenter Steinmetz 24,000 euro and his successor Joerg Metzner 20,000 euro. Both men were convicted of 23 counts of manslaughter and 11 counts of causing negligent injury. Prosecutors had sought jail sentences but the men were spared this as the court ruled they had not acted with criminal intent. The men intend to appeal.

The men had failed to install automatic brakes that would have stopped the train while there was a maintenance vehicle on the tracks and of not adhering to the “two-people-on-duty” guideline.

The third defendant, traffic superintendent Guenther Mueller, was unable to face trial due to suicide fears. His prosecution will occur at a later date. He is said to be the most important person facing charges, as he cleared the train to proceed when, in fact, the line was blocked.

San Jose, California — A woman eating a bowl of chili at a Wendy’s restaurant bit into a chewy bit that turned out to be a human finger. She immediately spat it out, warned other patrons to stop eating, and upon recognizing the object as a finger, vomited.

“I’m more of a Carl’s Jr. person,” the 39-year-old Las Vegas woman, Anna Ayala, told Knight Ridder. She said this incident was her first visit to a Wendy’s restaurant. Ayala described how she found the finger, “Suddenly something crunchy was in my mouth,” she continued, “and I spit it out.”

According to Devina Cordero, 20, after Ayala found the finger, she ran up to her and Cordero’s boyfriend and said, “Don’t eat it! Look, there’s a human finger in our chili.”

“We went up to the counter and they told us it was a vegetable,” Cordero continued. “The people from Wendy’s were poking it with a spoon.”

The restaurant is located at 1405 Monterey Highway, just south of downtown San Jose.

Wikinews reporter David Vasquez drove his car up to the drive-thru menu and found that chili was still on the menu, at a price of US$1.19 for a small serving. He also witnessed workers unloading supplies from a semi-trailer truck in the restaurant’s parking lot, and carting them into the back door of the establishment.

According to Ben Gale, director of environmental health for Santa Clara County, the finger did not come from any of the employees at the restaurant. “We asked everybody to show us they have 10 fingers and everything is OK there,” he said. The found portion of the finger likely belonged to a woman because of its long and manicured fingernail, also found in the food.

Officials seized the food supply at the restaurant and are tracing it back to the manufacturer, where they believe the finger may have gotten mixed in with the raw ingredients used to prepare the chili. The restaurant’s operators were later permitted to re-open after preparing new chili prepared from fresh ingredients.

As this story was filed, there was no mention of the incident on the Wendy’s corporate web site. Wendy’s issued a statement through a spokesman.

“Food safety is of utmost importance to us,” said Wendy’s spokesman Joe Desmond. He referred to the incident as an “unsubstantiated claim.”

“We are cooperating fully with the local police and health departments with their investigation. It’s important not to jump to conclusions. Here at Wendy’s we plan to do right by our customers,” Desmond said.

According to county health officials, the unfortunate woman who bit into the finger is doing fine, despite her initial reaction. Officials also noted that the finger would have been cooked at a high enough temperature to destroy any viruses.

The Santa Clara county medical examiner reported that the finger had a solid fingerprint, although investigators did not say if a search of fingerprint databases would be performed to find the owner of the finger.
